Memories of Roddy Lane Brantley
My brother, Roddy Lane Brantley, passed away in Memphis on February 6, 2008, of lung cancer. Throughout his life, he stayed in touch with many of his high school buddies, including Charlie Finley, Emmet Abbington, Brad Gordon and Mike Hensley. These friends stayed the course with him to the end, too and served as pallbearers. Brad Gordon also sang at Roddy’s funeral and Mike Hensley, who Roddy helped pray and encourage through seminary, preached the eulogy. As he was dying, Roddy raised his hands to Heaven, waved to whomever was greeting him, grinned his big silly grin and started laughing and kicking his feet excitedly to literally leap from this world to Eternal Life. Roddy is buried at Forest Hill East Cemetary. He is survived by his parents, Ed and Bonnie Brantley, brother, Eddy Brantley, sisters, Deborah Brantley Harrell, Vicki Lynn Brantley Jackson, Randi Brantley Sarsfield. Another sister, Bambi LouAnn Brantley has been missing without a trace since Oct. 22, 1986 and presumed dead. He loved us well...and loved God more. He entered this life crying and left it laughing, so we have no doubt where he is or that we will laugh and rejoice with him again one day.
